i think i need more tight of a pattern!  the turkey load seems to loose its core energy beyong 30 yards,  the winchester high velocity forget about it the number 6's had 22 hits on and 11 in piece of paper!

here is my no 4 buckshot pattern from a few weeks ago!  am i too tight or too loose?

shane at carlsons assured me a few different times that my dimension of the tube was .660.

the turkey was with nitro no 5's 3 in!

i tried no 6 high velocity by winchester 3 inch load and got only 22 hits at 40 yards!

The best thing for you to do is pay attention to the guy's here most of us have spent alot of time an money trying to get the best pattern we can. just pay attention to us an read the gun forum an you will save alot of money an time. Theres a lot of mossy shooters on here an none of them will tell you wrong. All everybody wants to do here is help each other out, I know from experience....

okay went and got a 4 foot by 4 foot piece of wrapping paper, drew a small black circle in the middle of it for something to aim at and fire, pattern was low but not tight! very very spread. there was even a gap between the pellets! this was at 40 yards using the carlsons choke, no 6's Winchester supreme 3 inch. what do you guys think! i couldnt even find a pattern without any gaps or enough pellets to draw a 10 in circle. note this is a 4x4 piece of paper!

your best bet is to buy a more constricted choke

Lon0121

you think the choke isnt tight enough!  carlsons told me on the phone that the mossberg dc choke was  660

I would buy a new choke before you`re out of ammo! :anim_25:

Lon0121

the thing is i cant buy one if i dont know if im
A: too tight of constriction forcing bad patterns
B: not tight enough

c:  if i have a 660 choke already what the heck size do i get to tighten the pattern? :help:

All chokes are not the same.  The gun will wake up with a good choke.  Now the 660 I would not shoot buckshoot out of.    Just pick you a SumToy, Indian Creek or Prue Gold.  The Kicks will do good in some guns. :anim_25:

Just because its a .660 diameter doesnt mean another brand choke of .660 will be the same.  I'm shooting a Mossy 535 and tried the stock xxx choke, jellyhead, undertaker, and finally settled with an indian creek .660 choke.  Even though all these chokes are similar in diameter, they all produced different patterns and shot count!  And they all shot differently with different ammo!  With the different combos my shot count ranged from low 110's to low 200's.  My best combination ended up being the Indian Creek 660 with 3.5" mag blends which is consistently putting up 200-205 in the 10" at 40, and about 350 in the 20" at 40 with a very even pattern throughout.

I am no expert on the mossys but you are the first person i have ever heard of that is using that choke for turkey hunting...some others might but i imagine it is pretty rare.

I would definitely look into another choke or better ammo like the Xtended range or Hevi shot....

I know a lot of dudes who love the kicks out of their mossys and a bunch more that swear by the truglo ssx.

imo better ammo may not even improve that by much.
