striker blank questions

Had a member graciously send me some blanks for making strikers. My question is....without the use of a lathe yet, whats my best avenue of approach to making them? Drill, hand sand etc?

I usually whittle them round with a pocket knife and get the basic design down. Then I make sure I left enough length to chuck it into a drill. Then spin away with a hand drill until you get it the way you want it with sand paper. U can also use files to cut designs into it. I started a post earlier and it's titled "call blanks", I posted a pic of a few that I had made on that thread
