I hate to throw in another vote for a owl call, but I will.  On occasion, I have gotten a response from a crow call in the evening, but not often.

I have good luck down here in FL with a loud cackle or a gobble.  The cackle seems to work best.

Here in Ontario i'll use a crow or goose call. Seems the first goose to buzz through wakes em up in the morning as well.  The owl hoot here is kind of a gamble.

most often I like good strong yelp and cluck if no answer cutt reason is to give them something to think about all night till I creep in next morning
