TURNING CYPRESS FOR A POT CALL @ STRIKERS , QUESTION

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH TURNING THIS IVE BEEN THROUGH 3 KEEPS BLOWING OUT ON ME AT THE EDGES , I PICKED UP A BOARD AT A MILL , A REAL NICE BOARD HARDLY ANY NOTS , ANYWAYS MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I KEEP TRYING OR > I JUST GOT A STABILIZER KIT < WOULD IT BE BETTER TO TRY STABILIZING . I HAVE SOME FRIENDS THAT WANT A CALL MADE OUT OF SOME HOMEGROWN   AND IM GIVING IT A TRY , IT'S HARD ANY SUGGESTION WOULD HELP THANKS

I don't know what's giving you fits with it cypress usually turns very easy. Where and how is it blowing out?

ALONG THE EDGE , IM THINKING ITS THE WOOD THERES SECTION OF IT THAT ARE RED IN COLOR THAT SEEM TOBE SOFT  , THERES A LUMBER YARD THAT I CAN GO TO THAT HAVE CYPRESS SELECT
IM THINKING THAT WOULD BE A BETTER WOOD TOGET THAN WHAT I got at THE MILL

what type of chisel are you using on the ledge? It should turn fine, the only thing I could think of would be dull chisel or a chisel that is not cutting square, it would create heat friction, and on some woods where the soft spots would make for a problem.

  USING A SET OF  craftsman , SINCE YOU SAID ABOUT NOT BEING SHARP MAYBE THATS IT THEY LOOKED SHARP , I DIDN'T THINK TO CHECK AND SEE IF THEY ARE SHARP.
