Memorial Day 2013 Devotional

Honoring those men and women who found it important enough to serve their country and who believed in their service strong enough to give the ultimate gift, their life, is all too often overlooked, until we come to the day that has been designated (which is the final Monday in May) by the US Government as Memorial Day.
Honoring those who gave their lives, we pause a moment, reflecting on their commitment, their response to the greater need and their memories will forever be instilled in our hearts and our minds, their journeys have paved the way for many more who will ultimately pay that price for the freedoms we so love.
When I think on this, I also see an image of another Soldier, one not shrouded in camouflage, not carrying a rifle, a soldier who's objective is to save everyone He comes in contact with, who knows His enemy all too well and one who also paid the ultimate price for our Spiritual Freedom, Jesus Christ.
He didn't attend Boot Camp in the sense that we know it today, and like many soldiers of today's Armed Forces, He did volunteer, He wasn't Drafted, His training began in a wilderness, His battlefield covers the entire planet, and in the end, He was hated, mocked and sacrificed, by those very people He was fighting for! The Greatest Soldier ever to take up the fight and though He paid the price, He WON THE WAR!
He fought against the greatest and most powerful enemy known to man, 1 John 3:8  "He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil."
The men and women whom we honor this day had fought and died and were returned to us in a coffin, Jesus, after His Crucifixion, was placed in a borrowed tomb, BUT God raised Him up three days later! And now, He continues to fight for us, Hebrews 7: 25 ?Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He ever lives to make intercession for them. We Honor our fallen soldiers with silence and half mast flags, by remembering them for their tremendous tenacity and their dedication to the end. Shouldn't we also Honor Jesus? But let us not be silent, let us not raise our Christian Flag at half mast, let us raise our voices proclaiming His Victory,  let us raise our Flags with pride, committing our lives to the One who committed His all, so that our Hopes and Dreams of Eternal Victory, have merit and our future has been paved and set before us to travel unmolested because of His War against all that whcih is evil!
