Between Federal HW 7s and Hevi 7s, which patterns better for you and which do you prefer for hunting?  I can't seem to get my gun to shoot the HW loads very well so I'm thinking of trying some Hevi shot.

R AJ

It is the one that works best for you and your gun. I like the 15 g/cc from Federal preferably but they are both very capable 40 yard loads.

You will run out of pattern before you run out of power with either.

Like RAJ I like the heavier Federals but I have 4 or 5 boxes of hevi13 7's and I have 100% confidence in them after shooting them.

I found set ups that shoot federals as good as Hevi 13. I shoot federal. They hit harder.

What makes the Fed.'s hit harder?

I think they're denser

Yes. Much denser. Hevi 13 is really 12g in density per pellet. Federals are 15g per pellet.  They retain more energy at longer distances.

The hevi have always shot better patterns out of my 870.  I picked up a couple more boxes of the HW to try again this year though.

I shoot the feds 7 out of my 20. They put up better patterns than hevi 7. Out of my 12 I shoot hevi 7. The pattern is unreal
