I went and saw my wood guy today. I was trying to get some Hickory to make a few strikers. He said he didn't have Hickory but he had Pecan. He said Pecan and Hickory are exactly alike. He said most wood workers can't tell the difference. It was only going to cost me 1 dollar for a piece of Pecan to get 9 strikers so I got it. Is he right or is he snowballing me? I made a striker out of the Pecan and really like it. It turned easy and looks good. I just want to make sure this guy isn't lying to me otherwise I can't trust him. Any thoughts. Do I need to get some Hickory instead of Pecan?

Sounds like my old woodshop teacher was right. Even the professionals can't tell the difference. I can spend some time in this old guys shop. He has all kinds of different wood. I even walked out with a piece of Spalting Maple. I already have a call drying but it doesn't have much spalting in it.
