I use a high gloss polyerathane, Its not a friction polish by no means but I turn it in to one. What I do is apply it without the lathe running and then turn the lathe on to smooth it out and apply it evenly. seems to work for me

Nice looking group of calls Mark, I've use spray poly and wipe on....I'll have to try putting it on the lathe to level. That looks good.
