First Turkey

Today was the last day of the youth season here in MS. Birds have not been cooperating much this week. But things changed this morning.  We heard a couple birds before daylight and decided to setup in a field that birds like to strut in. We were around 200 yards from the closest bird, but I felt good about our chances. I tree yelped and then once he flew down I called to him every little while. He never answered me and only seemed to gobble at hawks and crows. After about an hour, he went completely silent. Of course, we all know what that can mean. Either he's coming or he found some hens.....well.....he was coming......at 20 yards my little girl got her first bird. My season has been made. I hope I can tag a few, but if not, I'm good. It was a different level of excitement for her.
