I've got some of the 1000fps reduced recoil federal tss 9s for sale in the classifieds

A gas operated semi will kick less than a pump, got an Escort youth 20ga semi last yr for about $300 . 6 lbs camo threaded for chokes. 10 yr old grandson  handles it no problem.

Check with Bryce at Foxtrot and ask if he can load Tommy's 1 1/4oz load, I hand load but won't share details of it here but it is a excellent, low recoil load for kids.

i've brought 3 daughters thru trials and tribulations of turkey hunting. oldest is now 24 and youngest is 12. they all started hunting with me around age of 8 or 9. they've been thru 410,20 gauges, pumps, single shots. finally submitted to gas 20ga after many years of watching daughters getting hammered by recoil. best choice i ever made . no more flinching, shutting eyes, complaining and missed shots.

I see I never replied here as to what I went with.  I picked up some Apex 2 3/4" 9's from Rogers and also ordered a .570 from Sumtoy so it's a little more forgiving with the pattern.  Honestly it still has a pretty good bit of recoil even with the shorter lower recoil shells.  I think I will really try to pick up an autoloader before next season.  Thanks for all the responses.

Bought an escort youth 20 ga last year  very pleases with it. 6 lbs gas operated so recoil is lower than a pump gun. Receiver is groved for an optic. 10 yr old grandson has no problem shooting it. It was around $300 last yr. Walmart had a similar tristar,  raptor?

I'll add - if you can setup shots for 25 yards and in, a 1oz load of 6s or 7.5s through most factory fulls/mods will demolish a turkey's neckeral region. And won't kick anything like a turkey load.

Shoot em close with low brass loads and the kids will be happier .....

Didn't see how old your son is? I shot a 20ga as a kid. Probably a little too much depending on age. Especially with a heavy load of tss
My son is 7 and has no problem with 410 with 7/8oz tss
Make sure you got good ear protection. My son was more scared at 5/6 by the. Loud noise than recoil of the 410
