Surfaces that do well with 3 and 3.25” pots?

I know copper works well in a smaller pot, but do other surfaces lend themselves to smaller pots?  Slate comes to mind.

Most assuredly slate. Them 2.5" minis are mean as hell on the limb.

Are those the teardrop calls I see?  Who makes them?

I've seen those, but never owned one. Think they wear them around their neck on a lanyard. Unsure of the slate size but I'd about bet that was right. Also don't know if those designs have sound boards but I doubt it. The one I love to carry is a Martin Brothers "Cherry Bomb." It's just a tiny cherry pot with a 2.5" gray slate surface. I got it on here in the classifieds. I know Larry Gresser at Prairie Game Calls makes a small slate he calls a "tree talker" that's mean as hell too. I like them because they're pretty incapable of getting loud. Great calls for tree talking. I've seen little mini purr pots with 2.5" slate as well.

Pappy sold some Titanium several years ago that was 3.25" that made a great sounding pot call.
I made one that has taken several gobblers.
No trees were hurt in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were highly inconvenienced.

It seems like Jimmy Schaffer(Oak Ridge Custom Calls) makes a slate Teardrop call, but can't remember for sure.

I think Gary Anderson has made little 2.5" pocket calls with slate.  I was searching yesterday and found that out.

Schaeffer definitely makes those tear drop calls and they're nice. Just a single playing surface. No soundboard.

If you can find one of those 2.5" slate pots, get it. Don't see many of them and they're great early morning. This is that Martin Brothers "Cherry Bomb" against a 3.5" call.

I have some 3" and 3 1/4 " in copper, aluminum, glass, brass and crystal and also a titanium. I have a green slate in a cedar pot that sounds good also. I prefer the smaller pot size in my hand when I am calling. They may have a little different sound than the same pot in a 3.5" pot but nothing that sounds bad.

Jimmy Schaffer* makes a nice teardrop call, it is the one I hear talked about the most. I was supposed to pick on up here on the site but it got damaged so I never did get one. I will before the Fall season though.
